Quick hits for a Tuesday:

— Flagstaff-based pro distance runners making the circuit stopped in Lucerne Tuesday, with promising results in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters.

NAZ Elite’s Olin Hacker, who won twice in the past weeks in European races, placed third in the 3,000 meters in Lucerne, a Continental League meet, with a time of 7:39.19. Teammate Ahmed Muhumed was fourth in 7:39.19, while Dark Sky Distance’s Lalo Herrera was fifth in 7:40.06 and Kasey Knevelbaard sixth in 7:40:44.

In the 1,500 meters, Dark Sky’s Jack Anstey, coming off a personal best last month in France, placed sixth in 3:36.19.

— Nico Young may have graduated and turned pro, as he prepared for the Olympic 10,000 meters, but his college honors at NAU keep on coming.

Young Tuesday was named the Big Sky Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. Young’s NAU degree, by the way, is in health science, nutrition, and foods. His grade-point average was 3.9, almost as impressive as his NCAA record 26:52.72 in the 10,000 meters.

Already, 411 runners have registered.
