Roads: It was a good day for Hoka NAZ Elite half marathoners on Sunday at the Philadelphia Distance Run Half Marathon.
Wesley Kiptoo, deep in marathon training, clocked a six-second victory over Athanas Kioko of ON running, with Kiptoo breaking the tape in 1:01:21. McKirdy Trained’s Tsegay Weldibanos finished third in 1:01:50, ahead of U.S. Olympic Trials runner Zach Panning in fifth.
On the women’s side, NAZ Elite’s Mercy Chelangat couldn’t stay with winner Susanna Sullivan, who pulled away and won in 1:09:42. Chelangat was second in 1:10:21.
Meanwhile, at the Copenhagen Half Marathon, Verde Track Club runner and former NAU star Jessa Hanson had a rough day, finishing 46th among the women in 1:18:21. Hanson reportedly fell at about the halfway mark in the race, which explains her 22-minute 5K split between 10K and 15K. Hanson was using this as a warmup for November’s New York City Marathon.
Trails: At the rugged Run the Rut trail race series in Big Sky, Mont., south of Bozeman, Flagstaff’s Ruairi Moynihan finished a solid second in the 11K in 53:45. Flagstaff’s Austin Corbett finished 124th in the 28K in a time of 5:35:59, despite (or maybe because of) wearing jorts during the race.
