Weekend results, from the pros to the community:
— The Diamond League circuit rolls on, and on Sunday it landed in Silesia, Poland. Several Flagstaff-based runners made the trip.
Hoka NAZ Elite’s Adriaan Wildschutt continued his fine season in the men’s 3,000 meters. Though Norway’s Jacob Ingebrigtsen deservedly garnered all the attention for smashing the long-standing world record by running 7:17.55, Wildschutt set another personal best and South African national record at 7:32.99, good enough for eighth place in the speedy race. It was nearly a four-second personal best for Wildschutt.
In the 800 meters, Flagstaff-based training buddies Bryce Hoppel and Hobbs Kessler duked it out. Hoppel, who finished fourth last week in the Diamond League Lausanne, placed third Sunday in 1:43.32. Kessler, coming down in distance after running the 1,500 meters in Lausanne, was eighth in 1:43.97.
Under Armour Dark Sky Distance’s Susan Ejore broke the 4-minute barrier again in the women’s 1,500 meters, finishing seventh in 3:59.97. Her Dark Sky teammate, Matt Wilkinson, had a rough day in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase, finishing 17th in 8:40.35.
— NAZ Elite’s Alex Masai, representing Kenya, finished ninth Sunday in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in Northern Ireland in 1:02:54.
— Closer to home, scores of runners headed out Sunday morning to Flagstaff’s Nordic Ski Center for the Groovin’ in the Aspens 18K, 10K and 5K.
Results:
18K: Ethan Koza, a former Temple University runner from Newtown, Pa., won by nearly nine minutes in 1:09.19. April Bleicher was the woman’s winner (and third overall) in 1:18:41. Flagstaff’s Kevin McClintock, 41, was the Masters men’s winner in 1:25:51, and Flagstaff’s Emilie Sineau was the women’s Masters champ in 1:44:29.
10K: Mango Correa easily took the men’s win in 41:46, with Flagstaff’s Sara Risner-Rumohr winning the women’s title in 51:50. Masters winners: Tai Davis (men) 55:28; Grace Daly (women) 1:07:02.
5K: Camp Verde’s Josh Frewin won in 20:48, with 18-year-old Violet Hill winning the women’s title (third overall) in 22:38. Masters winners: Benjamin Holladay (men) 25:02; Corine Green (women) 28:44.
— Sunday afternoon, just outside Denver, Jeff Browning completed the 450+ mile Colorado Trail fastest known time for the West-to-East (Collegiate West) route in 7 days 9 hours 35 minutes — beating the old record by about eight hours. Browning put in an impressive performance. More impressive: He amassed $15,000 in donations for the Warrior Trail Foundation.
–Several Flagstaffians competed in the Telluride Mountain Run 40 Miler, and Dawn Greenwalt was the top local finisher, in 11 hours 20 minutes 34 seconds. In the 24 Miler, Flagstaff’s Ben Cook finished 12th in 4:50:46. In the 13 Miler, Flag’s Heidi Nadeau placed 24th in 3:31:32.
