Alert readers have noted that the trail closure of Waterline Road and the Weatherford Trail as a result of the devastating 2022 Pipeline Fire is set to expire on April 14.
So, does that mean that one of Flagstaff’s favorite runs — the 9.1-mile Waterline Road stretch from Schultz Pass to the Inner Basin — will be open soon, snow levels permitting?
Alas, no.
According to Brady Smith, public information officer with the Coconino National Forest, the closure order will be renewed because work in ongoing on the road after the fire and subsequent erosion.
Smith said officials hope to have all work done and Waterline and Weatherford open in full by “moonsoon season” — July.
Fear not, trail folks: the wait is almost over.
