Weekend Prep Results: Flugstad Breaks 2 Minutes in 800 in Glendale; Coco’s Wolfe and Davis Battle at Bradshaw

As previously reported, senior Jack Flugstad and select other runners decided to forgo their track seasons at Northland Prep and run attached under the guidance of former NPA coach Xavier Rodriguez.

And Flugstad seems to have thrived under the new arrangement.

At Saturday’s Glendale Community College Invite, Flugstad ran 1:59.94 to finish fifth among community college runners. It was the secondfastest 800 meter time by an NPA student — though, as noted, Flugstad is running unattached.

Sophomore Emilio Haubert, in the same meet, logged a 4:25 time in the 1,500 meters. That converts to a 4:42 1,600), which according to Rodriguez, also is No. 2 for his grade on NPA’s all-time list.

Elsewhere, at the Bradshaw Mountain Invitational in Prescott Valley, Coconino High’s Laine Davis and Nicholas Wolfe battled it out in both the 800 and 1,600.

In the 800, Davis finished second in 2:03.30, while Wolfe was fourth in 2:07.30. Basis Flagstaff’s Diego Hernandez was eighth in 2:12.20. Later, in the 1,600, Wolfe finished first in 4:36.80, while Davis was third is 4:37.60 and Cococnino teammate Clayton Rhoton was fourth in 4:39.20.

Among the girls, it was a productive meet for Coconino’s Addison Stenman. The senior placed third in the 1,600 at 5:51.50 and fifth in the 800 at 2:53.13. Basis’ Sammy Mullaney was eighth in the 800 at 2:38.77. Also in the 1,600, Coconino’s Gwendolyn Meier was 16th and teammate Scarlett Hargan 17th in 6:34.80 and 6:35.40, repsectively.
