On Day 2 of the state divisional meet, Flagstaff area runners had another strong night, with the boys 3,200 meters and girls 800 meters the highlights.
In the boys 3,200 in Division 3, it was the same result as Friday night’s 1,600 meters: Flag’s Alex Bland finishing second to Bryson Nielsen of Eastmark. This time, Nielsen posted a time of 9:31.70 to Bland’s 9:32.69. Coconino High’s Nicholas Wolfe was third in 9:35.81, and teamate Laine Davis seventh in 9:51.82.
Preliminary results from all five divisions show that it appears Bland and Wolfe qualified for next week’s “Super State” meet.
In the girls 800, Flagstaff High junior McKenna Maloney, a three-sport star for the Eagles, placed second in Division 3 with sa time of 2:21.81. In Division 5, Basis Flagstaff sophomore Jasmine Hall placed third in 2:24.68.
In other distance events on Saturday, Basis’ Emily Mullaney posted the top local time, finishing fifth in 5:25.82. In Division 3, Flagstaff’s Taylor Biggambler placed eighth in 5:30.39 and Olivia Baker ninth in 5:31.37.
