The busiest weekend yet this spring produced more results than just the Big Sky Championships, the Cocodona 250 and the Sound Running Track Fest.
Here are more results involving Flagstaff runners:
— Rory Linkletter was edged at the finish tape in his quest to win his first Canadian championship. Saturday night at the country’s 10K track championdships in Burnaby, B.C., Linkletter literally battled Andrew Alexander to the line (see photo), coming up 0.18 of a second shy. Alexander won in 28:27.69 to Linkletter’s 28:27.87.
Next up for Linkletter in his build up to the 2024 Olympic Marathon is the Canadian 10K Road Championships this coming weekend, where he is expected to face off against friend and rival Ben Flanagan. In 2022, at the championships, Linkletter lost to Flanagan, 28:40 to 29:02.
— Flagstaff ultra runner Cordis Hall finished fifth in the brutally difficult UTMB Ultra Snowdonia 100 Mile Race in North Wales. Hall, sponsored by Adidas, was the top American. His time: 28:29:15.
On Instagram, Hall wrote of his race experience: “I experienced a low patch almost immediately from the start and after a little reset worked up to 5th place by 60 miles where I’d eventually finish. This course takes the win for the most beautiful and technical mountain ultra I’ve ever seen, the tagline “beautiful beyond belief, savage beyond reason” is completely accurate! Big, rocky, boggy, grassy mountains.”
— In the AIA Prep State Championships, Flagstaff High’s Alex Bland finished ninth in the 1,600 meters and seventh in the 3,200 meters. Bland, only a sophomore, ran 4:18.50 in the 1,600, just shy of his PR (and school record) of 4:18.46. In the 3,200, his time was 9:22.35. Coconino High’s Nick Wolfe placed 14th in the 3,200 at 9:35.71.
