Prep Results: Flagstaff High Girls Win in East Valley, Boys Put 4 in Top 10; Coconino Boys Win at Bradshaw Mountain

Three of Flagstaff’s four local high school cross country teams did tune-ups for next week’s AIA Sectionals, and the results were solid.

The Division 2 favorite Flagstaff High girls team rolled to victory Wednesday in the East Valley Invitational, taking the team title with 31 points, led by the race’s individual winner, Olivia Baker, who covered the course in 18:18. Teammate Taylor Biggambler was third overall in 18:18:40 and freshman Kylyn Taylor was fifth overall in 19:18.

Rounding out the Eagles’ girl performances: Audrey Ketter (17th in 21:07) Miley McQuivey (20th in 21:13) and Rylan Swain 23rd in 21:25).

On the boys’ side, Flagstaff sent only four runners. All did well, reaching the top 10. Junior Alex Bland placed second overall in 15:47, while senior Cole Troxler was seventh in 16:30, junior Elijah Talkalai eighth in 16:37 and freshman Uuts Masayumptewa 10th in 16:43. The team winner was Williams Field with 43 points.

On Saturday, most of Coconino High’s runners traveled to the Bradshaw Mountain Invitational, with the Panthers boys taking the team title with 35 points, eight ahead of Snowflake High.

Coconino senior Laine Davis finished second overall in 17:24, followed by teammate Robert Moore in third in 18:26. Other Panther boys scorers: James Broadbent (7th in 19:18), Aaron Perkins (11th in 19:27), and Miles Seumptewa (12th in 19:28).

The Panther girls, without top runner Mary McGinlay, finished second behind Snowflake. Sophomore Savanna McKerracher led Coconino with a third-place finish in 22:26. Other Coconino scorers: Shaylynn Billy (8th in 24:12), Scarlett Hargan (12th in 25:48), Emma Date (13th in 26:25) and Iris Taliman (14th in 26:38).

Basis Flagstaff on Wednesday traveled to St. Michael School in Fort Defiance for the 1A Meet. Results have yet to be posted. This story will be updated later.
