Quick Hits for a Monday:
— You expected a load of Flagstaff pro runners to toe the line Saturday at the New York City Marathon affiliated Abbott Dash 5K, but here’s a name that may have raised a few eyebrows:
Drew Bosley.
Yes, the same Drew Bosley from NAU. Bosley’s cross country eligibility is up, but he still has indoor and outdoor track seasons left for the Lumberjacks. Bosley hasn’t raced since last indoor season — and then, only sparingly, becuase of a lingering injury. So this will be his first race since January. And it will be Bosley’s first road race against professionals.
Flagstaff pros entered include: Men: Morgan Beadlescomb, Ahmed Muhumed, Biya Simbassa, Afeworki Zeru; Women: Alycia Cridebring, Angelina Ellis, Elly Henes, Abby Nichols, Annika Reiss, Katie Wasserman, Paige Wood.
— Coconino Community College’s men’s and women’s cross country teams ran at the NJCAA Region 1 meet at Glendale Heroes Park. The Comets women finished third of four teams, and top runner Cian Davis, a freshman, finished 10th in 21:07. Leah Redondo was CCC’s second runner in 13th place.
On the men’s side, Coconino ran only four competitors and, thus, did not have a team score. Theodore Round Face was the Comets’ top finisher, 14th, in 29:48 over the 8K course, with teammate Jehovan Flores 17th in 30:25.
— Flagstaff had six runners competing in Saturday’s Javelina Jundred, the 100-mile loops in the Phoenix desert. Under unseasonably hot conditions, even for Phoenix, only two of the six finished. Matalee Petersen, 23, finished in 334th place in 27 hours 57 minutes and 47 seconds, with Kyle Cameron, 35, right there behind her in 335th place in 27:57:48.
— The annual Northern Arizona Middle School Cross Country Race took place at Fort Tuthill County Park, and the 7th and 8th grade winners were (girls) Isabell Martin from Chinle Middle School in 12:49 (two miles) and (boys) Kylen Antone from Hopi Jr. High SChool in 11:57.
In the 4th-5-th-6th grade races, Lyla Holgate of St. Michael Indian School won the girls race in 14:14, and William Crozier of Sinagua Middle School was the boys winner in 13:02.
