Flagstaffian Jacob Rewerts, 25, placed second in Saturday’s McDowell Mountain Marathon in the Valley in 4:20, 20 minutes behind winner Isaiah Ford of Phoenix.

The top Flagstaff women was Samantha Woodside, 32, placing 14th (second woman) in 5:20. The race featured 5,000 feet in elevation gain; hence the relatively slow times.

Woodside, training for May’s epic Cocodona 250, seems to be using trail marathons as training runs. Two weeks earlier, she finished third (second woman) at the Old Pueblo Endurance Runs 25 Mile in 4:15:36. Flagstaff’s Allie Stowell run Old Pueblo, run in rugged Sonoita, in 3:50:21.

Elsewhere, it was not a race, per se, but Flagstaff ultra runners Sarah Ostaszewski posted on her Instagram account that she completed another Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim over the weekend. She wrote that she battled snow and rain for much of the journey but recorded her second fastest time.

Excerpt from her post: “Fourth time running from rim to rim to rim, somehow my second fastest time with less than ideal conditions. The day started off sunny but chilly, with temperatures warming up in the corridor past Phantom Ranch, then snow and rain for *almost* the entire second half. Luckily the skies cleared just in time for sunset halfway up South Kaibab. Then darkness! And more snow and more mud. Only a few fellow headlamps—I’ve never seen the canyon so empty on a weekend. … I hadn’t completed this route since October 2021, but it’s still one of my favorites runs—truly one of the best runs on the planet.”
