NAU Lands Another Transfer from Florida State: Agnes McTighe

NAU announced on Tuesday that Florida State middle distance and cross country runner Agnes McTighe will join the Lumberjacks in January, in time for indoor and outdoor track season.

Currently, McTighe is running cross country for FSU and finished 29th in the Pre-Nationals in Wisconsin on Oct. 19. Florida State’s website lists McTighe as a senior, but the results from the Pre-Nationals lists her as a junior. Her finish would have made her NAU’s third runner at Pre-Nats, a few seconds ahead of Keira Moore and Maggi Congdon.

Coaches Mike Smith and Jarred Cornfield confirmed that McTighe will have cross country eligibility for 2025, in addition to two years of indoor and outdoor track for NAU.

This is a major addition for the NAU women, not only to bolster its middle distance track program but also for the 2025 cross country season, when Elise Stearns, Congdon, Ali Upshaw and Alyson Churchill, among others, will have graduated.

Originally from Switzerland, McTighe was a member of that country’s junior national team and set Swiss records in the 1,000 and 2,000 meters. Even before that, McTighe set the 13-year old world record in the 3,000 meters at 9:25 in 2014.

At Florida State, McTighe boasts personal bests of 2:07.42 in the 800 meters, 4:13 for the 1,500 meters and 15:51 for 5,000 meters, all outdoors. Indoors, she has a PR of 9:12 in the 3,000 meters.

Her addition is the third transfer portal addition to NAU from Florida State in slightly less than a year. First, Churchill signed in December, and then Dave Mullarkey, the Lumberjacks’ top men’s runner this year, transferred from FSU in mid-summer.
