In this nascent NCAA outdoors season, NAU junior Nikita Moore already has shown strength that may serve her well come late May and regional and, perhaps, national meets.
Friday and Saturday, Moore, an Aussie, pulled off the 1,500-meter, 800-meter double at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson. Friday night, Moore led an NAU distance contingent that swept the top five spots in the 1,500. Moore edged teammate Annika Reiss (4:23.35 to 4:23.99). Third place went to the other Moore, sister Keira Moore at 4:26.75, and freshman transfer from the University of Colorado, Karrie Baloga, fourth at 4:28.48.
Then, Saturday afternoon, Nikita Moore beat sister Keira again, Nikita first in 2:08.92, Keira second at 2:09.52. Ava Mitchell was sixth at 2:11.63.
Men’s distance results: In the 1,500, Caleb Easton placed third at 3:49.77 and Erik LeRoux fourth in 3:50.33. In the 800, Easton was the top NAU finisher in seventh aty 1:53.01.
