Flagstaff Big Pine Trail Results: Hodge-Zickerman Wins 53K, Painter 27K, Cross 13K

Saturday at Fort Tuthill County Park proved a stellar day for Flagstaff women trail runners at the Flagstaff Extreme Big Pine trail races.

In the marquee event, the 53K, Angie Hodge-Zickerman came from behind in the final segment to win in 5 hours 15 minutes 49 seconds, less than a minute ahead of runnerup Andrea White.

Hodge-Zickerman, an NAU statistics professor, has had previous success on the trails. She won the Whiskey Basin 60K in Prescott in 2023 and finished fourth in the Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Stagecoach Line 55K in 2023. (Ethan Koza, from Newtown, Pa., was the overall winner in a course-record time of 3:46:23.)

Former Flagstaff High and NAU runner Chloe Painter won Saturday’s 27K in 2:14:11, some 34 minutes ahead of second place. Painter was fourth overall. And in the 13K, Flagstaff’s Valerie Cross, who most recently finished fourth in the Elden Crest 38, won the Big Pine 13K in 1:09:14, four minutes ahead of her nearest rival.

Other notable finishes by Flagstaffians from the various Big Pine events:

— Former Flagstaff High School runner Dash McQuivey, 19, third in the 53K at 5:10:43.

— Benjamin Lucas fourth in the 53K at 5:12:42.

— Rachel Buzzard, fourth woman in the 53K at 5:30:04.

— Rob Hall, eighth in the 53K at 5:33:17.

— Ethan Olsen, ninth in the 53K at 5;34:29.

— Karina Olsen, sixth woman in the 53K at 5:39:49.

— Zac Walberer, third in the 27K at 2:23:08.
