Flagstaff’s Lindsay Prescott, a former Olympic Trials marathoner now turning to ultras, won the 55K of the Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Stagecoach Line Run in dominating fashion, beating even the top male, pro ultra runner Jared Hazen.
Prescott, who is training for the highly-competitive JFK 50 Mile ultra in Maryland on Nov. 23, notched the victory in 4 hours 31 minutes 31 seconds, a half an hour ahead of Hazen, the men’s winner. Hazen is a former overall winner of this same race in 2017, when he finished in a three-way tie with fellow pros Jim Walmsley and Cody Reed.
Prescott’s time was just four minutes shy of the women’s course record set in 2018 by Taylor Nowlin.
Rounding out the podium for the women were Flagstaff’s Kate Taylor (third overall, second woman) in 5:21 and Emilie Sineau (third woman, sixth overall ,first masters runner of either gender) in 6:01:32. Joining Hazen on the men’s podium was James Register of Piscataway, N.J. (second male, fourth overall) and Lorin Wilson of Scottsdale (fifth overall, third male). The top male masters runner was John Fegyveresi in 6:02:18.
The 34-year-old Prescott, who ran competitively at Arizona State, currently is the U.S. recordholder in the road 50K, winning April’s Mad City 50K in Madison, Wisc., in a course record 3 hours 21 minutes 36 seconds. The JFK race will be Prescott’s first attempt at the 50-mile distance.
