Oliver, and his tagging-along human, Addison Royer, won Saturday’s Flagstaff Doggie Dash 5K

Weekend Community Race Results: Oliver (and His Human) Win Doggie Dash 5K; Flagstaff Runners Dominate Red Rock Rumble

Showing impressive speed and savvy despite this being his first race, Oliver the rez rescue dog, along with human Addison Royer, won Saturday’s Flagstaff Doggie Dash 5K at Buffalo Park.

The cross-species pair covered the course in 18:46, 29 seconds faster than second place Ryan Hansen and his pooch, Norah.

Oh, yeah, there were other distances and races at Buffalo Park that day: Sedona’s Michelle Harman, 58, showed amazing endurance to win the 12-Hour Buffaloops timed race, while Flagstaff’s Jason Wheat won the 6-Hour version and Filip Boelen the 3-hour. The non-canine 5K was won by Flag’s Austin Rockstroh (18:25) and Breanna Teschner (20:59).

On Sunday, trail runners gathered in Sedona for the 5-mile Red Rock Rumble. Flagstaff runners ruled: the top eight finishers all were from Flagstaff, led by Joshua Ramirez, who won in 36:15. The top woman was Flagstaff’s Margaret Hallahan in 47:11.
