Coconino High School has hit the ground running, so to speak, this cross country season. On Saturday, the Panthers participated in their third meet of the young season, the Canyon De Chelly Invitational in Chinle.
The boys team placed fourth, with senior Lane Davis cracking the top 10, placing seventh in 17:13. He was followed by teammates Robert Moore (18th), Clayton Rhoton (32nd), James Broadbent (46th) and Miles Seumptewa (50th).
No team was going to catch Page, which put all five scoring runners in the top 10, led by winner Symond Martin, who won last Saturday’s Peaks Invitational at Buffalo Park.
The Coconino girls were without No. 1 runner Mary McGinlay, but pulled off a respectable seventh place finish. Sophomore Savanna McKerracher led the way in 12th in 23:08, with Alexis Ortiz (26th), Shaylynn Billy (27th), Scarlett Hargan (37th) and Emma Date (56th) rounding out the scoring. The girls’ team title was won by host Chinle.
All four Flagstaff teams — Coconino, Basis, Flagstaff and Northland Prep — are scheduled to be at the Four Corners Invitational at Buffalo Park next Saturday.
