Weekend Prep Track Distance Results

High school track season has barely made it out of the starting blocks, but results are starting to heat up for Flagstaff-area prep distance runners.

At the Shadow Ridge Showcase in the Valley on Saturday, Coconino High senior Nicholas Wolfe won the 1,600 meters in 4:31.31, edging Millennium’s Benjamin Udall by two-tenth of a second. Coconino had three runners in the top seven in the race, as Lane Davis placed fourth in 4:37.53 and Clayton Rhoton seventh in 4:42.39.

Wolfe and Davis doubled in the 3,200. Wolfe finished fourth in 10:02.55 and Davis 20th in 10:46.20. Northland Prep’s Delani Hanson finished 11th in the race at 10:20:34. Rhoton was the highest local boys finisher in the 800 meters, coming in sixth at 2:00.21. In the Boys Distance Medley Relay, NPA placed seventh, Coconino 10th.

In a spirited girls DMR at Shadow Ridge, NPA’s squad of Jaelyn Weiss, Laura Drexler, Sarah Drexler and Eva Madsen placed second in 14:34.04, seven seconds behind winner Red Mountain. Coconino finished fourth in 14:51.10.

Individually, on the girls side, the highlight was Weiss’ ninth place finish in the 1,600 at 5:57.32. Full results from the meet here.

Flagstaff High participated in the Mountain Ridge Invitational. The Eagles’ girls team fared well in the 800 meters, with sophomore Taylor Biggambler placing second at 2:29.02, Olivia Baker sixth in 2:34.74 and Haley Johnson seventh in 2:35. 55. In the girls 1,600, Flagstaff’s Miley McQuivey finished ninth in 5:57.73.

For the boys, in the 800, Jacob Medina was 16th (2:09) and Miles Borling 22nd (2:10.43).
