Several Flagstaff pro runners not in Eugene for the Olympic Trials convened in Boston Sunday morning for the BAA 10K, and NAZ Elite’s Wesley Kiptoo, a Kenyan, finished second behind countryman Sabastian Sawe.
Kiptoo, a road specialist, ran 27:53, 11 seconds behind Sawe. McKirdy Trained’s Yemane Hailesallassie, from Eritrea, placed fourth in 28:11. And NAZ Elite’s Alex Masai, from Kenya, was eighth in 28:29.
Other Flagstaff finishers: Canadian Olympic marathoner Rory Linkletter 11th in 28:46, Diego Estrada 13th in 28:59 and NAZ Elite’s Matt Baxter, a New Zealander, 14th in 29:16.
In the women’s race, part-time Flagstaffian Emily Durgin cracked the top 10, placing eighth in 31:51. NAZ Elite’s Mercy Chelangat, from Kenya, was 13th in 32:37.
