Ejore, Dark Sky Distance Light Up Seattle in 5,000

Dark Sky Distance, the Under Armour group that trains in Flagstaff under Stephen Haas and Pat Casey, dominated the women’s 5,000 meters Friday night at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Qualifier in Seattle.

Dark Sky’s Susan Ejore broke the facility record at Dempsey Indoor Facility held by Jenny Simpson by running a blistering 14:55.35. A 28-year-old Kenyan who was a two-time NCAA indoor champion at the University of Oregon, Ejore broke away from Australia’s Lauren Ryan (Under Armour), who finished second at 14:57.67 — also breaking Simpson’s facility record.

Canadian Regan Yee, Ejore’s Dark Sky teammate, finished third in 15:01.84.

Ejore’s performance comes two weeks after she set a Kenyan record by running a 4:20.61 mile at the Millrose Games in New York.
