Track season rolls on. As Olympic qualifiers either train at elevation or race in Diamond League competition to remain sharp, other elites from Flagstaff are jetting to Europe for meets.
At the Cork City Meet on Tuesday, always a favorite for athletes, Hoke NAZ Elite’s Olin Hacker pulled away from Under Armour Dark Sky’s Kasey Knevelbaard to win the 3,000 meters. Hacker ran 7:40.49 and Knevelbaard 7:41.61. NAZ Elite’s Ahmed Muhumed placed fifth in the race at 7:43.85. Knevelbaard and Muhumed both notched personal bests. A blast from the past: Australia’s David McNeill, 37, the former NAU star, placed 18th in 8:08.35.
In the Cork 800 meters, Dark Sky’s Abe Alvarado finished fifth on 1:46.11.
Meanwhile, at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Tuesday, Dark Sky’s Lalo Herrera, the Mexican national 1,500 meter champ, placed second in the 3,000 meters at 7:44.10. In the women’s steeplechase, Dark Sky’s Adva Cohen, of Israel, finished eighth in 9:41.23.
