Quick Hits for a Tuesday:
–After nearly a year not competing due to injury an form “issues,” star NAU distance runner Drew Bosley is expected to don a Lumberjack singlet on Saturday at the Colyer-Danville Season Opener Indoor Meet in Boston.
Bosley still has a year’s eligibility left in indoor and outdoor track and he’s on the start list for a stacked 5,000-meter indoor race that includes two-time NCAA cross country champ Graham Blanks, New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel, Washington State’s Evans Kirui, Arkansas’ Yaseen Abdella and several runners from Oklahoma State and BYU.
He’ll be joined by NAU teammates David Mullarkey and Santiago Prosser in the 5,000 meters.
The only NAU woman believed to be competing in Boston is Ali Upshaw in the 5,000 meters.
Bosley actually has raced fairly recently. He jumped into his first exclusively pro race at the Abbott Dash 5K in New York City in November and finished seventh after hanging with the lead pack until Hoka NAZ Elite’s Muhumed broke it up and won easily. Bosley ran 13:49.
–Fresh off winning the Arizona Open 5K title on the track in 14:53.87, easily beating Division 1 champion Hamilton’s Zarian Rodriguez (15:08.08). Flagstaff High sophomore Yohanes Van Meerten is scheduled to race in the Foot Locker West Regional on Saturday at the historic Mt. San Antonio College course. If Van Meerten finishes in the top 10, he will advance to the Foot Locker Nationals in San Diego.
–NAZ Elite’s Ahmed Muhumed, on a three-race win streak, is holding a fund-raising Zoom running seminar on Saturday on benefit the Somali Youth Running Event. Cost is $10. Muhumed said he will sahre “small but impactful changes I’ve made to improve my runningover the years.” HE also will take questions.
