Flagstaff’s Ruairi Moynihan finished second on Saturday in the 20th Fargo (N.D.) Marathon.

Quick Hits: Lake Mary Road Work; Dark Sky Results from Atlanta; Moynihan 2nd at Fargo Marathon; Neil Weintraub’s Hip

Quicks hits for a Saturday:

— Attention, runners who frequent Lake Mary Road for workouts or long runs: Coconino County on Monday will close the shoulders of Lake Mary Road to “recreationalists” (that means runners) between the Flagstaff city limits and milepost 332 for paving work. The work is expected to continue through Friday, June 7.

What, exactly, are they doing? The county said in a press release that crews will “chip seal” the road to smooth out cracks and bumps. The assumption is the shoulders, where runners plod, will get the treatment, too. Hopefully, the county will either keep or re-do the quarter-mile markers on the shoulder.

— Two Under Armour Dary Sky Distance runners competed Friday night at the Edwin Moses Legends meet in Atlanta.

In the 800 meters, Dark Sky’s Abe Alvarado placed fourth in 1:46.47. In the 1,500 meters, Dark Sky’s Kasey Knevelbaard finished seventh in 3:37.26 in a race won by Sam Prakel in 3:35.73.

— Flagstaff’s OG TrailGangstAZ, ultra runner and race director Ruairi Moynihan finished second Saturday morning in the 20th Fargo (N.D.) Marathon in 2 hours 28 minutes 39 seconds. Moynihan, who grew up in Fargo, was running in honor of his friend, the late Fargo race director Mark Knutson, who died in a bicycle accident last year.

— Speaking of race directors, Flagstaff’s Neil Weintraub wrote a fascinating essay in today’s Arizona Daily Sun “High Country Running” column about his hip replacement. He’s now back running and even finished a 5K in Pennsylvania recently. It’s worth a read.
