Sara Hall Added to Boston Marathon Elite Field

Flagstaff’s Sara Hall, who finished fifth in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in early February, has been added to the elite field for April 15’s Boston Marathon, the BAA announced Thursday.

The 40-year-old Hall, who is on the start list for Sound Running’s The Ten on the track Saturday night in hopes to capturing the Olympic standard for the 10K, failed to gain a spot on the U.S Olympic marathon team in February, but her fifth-place finish set an American Masters record with a time of 2:26:06. Hall will turn 41 on Boston race day.

Dark Sky’s Sharon Lokedi, the former New York City Marathon champ, also is running.

It will be a quick turnaound for Hall, who, when healthy, thrives on racing often. Lately, she has posted training videos on social media from Quito, Ecuador, which, at 9,350 feet, makes Flagstaff’s 7,000 feet seem tame. Hall posted about doing several runs at 13,000 feet.

Other Flagstaff elites already announced as running Boston: Edward Cheserek, Craig Hunt and McKirdy Trained Tsegay Tuemay. Hoka NAZ Elite’s Nick Hauger was originally announced as running, but he has decided not to compete due to losing training time with a minor injury. (He’s back training.)
